City Council

The Bushnell City Council consists of five voting members: Mayor, Vice Mayor and three members each running on four year terms for seats one through five and each having one vote. The Council Chambers are located on the first floor of the Bushnell City Hall at 117 E. Joe P. Strickland, Jr. Avenue.

An affirmative vote of three members is necessary to transact municipal business. The City Council’s regular meetings are held once monthly on the first Monday of the month at 6:00 pm.

The City Council legislate City Ordinances, adopt Resolutions, approve policies, adopt budgets, set the milage rate and conduct other municipal business.

Councilman Swain has held office for over 30 years.

The Vice Mayor, Bill Durham, is currently serving as the Mayor until December 31st, 2018.

Bill Durham was elected to the position of Vice-Mayor for the Bushnell City Council effective September 10th, 2014. Vice-Mayor Bill Durham was elected to the Bushnell City Council in December 2012. This is Vice-Mayor Durham's second term serving the citizens of Bushnell. Vice-Mayor Durham is currently employed with Sumter Electric Cooperative, Inc.

Councilman Joe P. Strickland was appointed by the Bushnell City Council Members on October 3, 2016 to fulfill the vacancy that was left by the passing of Councilwoman Kay McCoy.

Councilman Strickland has been a resident of Bushnell for 66 years, and served as Mayor of the City of Bushnell from 1982-2011. His mother, Margaret Strickland served as the Bushnell City Clerk from 1962-1981, creating a long-standing public service history by the Strickland family in the community.

Councilman Dale Swain was originally elected to the Bushnell City Council in December 1988. Councilman Swain has served the citizens of Bushnell for 30 years and was re-elected during the 2016 election. Councilman Swain is retired from the Sumter County School system.

Dale Barnes was appointed to council seat # 2 in September 2018 on a temporary basis until December 31, 2018 after the Vice Mayor, Bill Durham, was called upon to act as Mayor unexpectedly.

Councilwoman Karen Davis was elected to the Bushnell City Council in 2014, and began her term of office in January 2015.  She is a long time resident of the Bushnell community, and graduated in the Class of 1978, and furthered her education by attending Brevard Community College.  Councilwoman Davis is married to Winston Davis Sr. and they have 3 children and 9 grandchildren. She began her career at Sumter County Association for Retarded Citizens (SCARC), Inc. in 1986, where she started out as a training specialist working with clients, and teaching them health and safety skills and how to adapt in the community. Councilwoman Davis is the manager of the two group homes which are owned by SCARC. She is very excited about the opportunity to serve the citizens of the Bushnell community.

BUDGET SALARY WORKSHOP

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE, The City of Bushnell will be holding a Public Workshop on June 11, 2018 at 6:00 pm, in the Bushnell Council Chambers located at 117 E. Joe P. Strickland, Jr. Ave. The purpose of this workshop is to discuss salaries relating to the FY2018-2019 Proposed Budget.

Strickland Jr. Ave. The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss complaints against the Utilities Director and possible action taken.

Electric Integration Project Update Meeting

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE, The City of Bushnell will be holding an Electric Integration Project Update Meeting on Monday, June 12, 2018 at 9:00 am in the Bushnell Council Chambers located at 117 E Joe P. Strickland Jr. Ave. The purpose of the meeting will be to give an update on the progress of the Electric Integration Project (this meeting will be information only and no action can be taken).

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE, The City of Bushnell will be holding a Special Meeting Monday, August 27, 2018 at 6:00 p.m., in the Bushnell Council Chambers located at 117 E. Joe P. Strickland, Jr. Avenue.

The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss the Interlocal Agreement for Law Enforcement Services between the City of Bushnell, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, and Sumter County. All interested citizens are urged to attend.
